A webinar exploring the future, what Black people want that to look like and how we can best influence and impact positive change.
Background information

This year represents an opportunity to do more than just celebrate the contributions of Black communities in Walsall and explore closely at the Black experience of the past, present and crucially, the future. Hosted in partnership with The Faith and Belief Forum, this webinar will look at the future and what Black people want that to look like and how we can best influence and impact positive change.

Speakers will give a talk on their personal journey, experience and vision of the future in their respective sectors and will then take part in a panel discussion which will include questions from the audience.

All are welcome to attend this event.

About the speakers

Chief Insp. Rod Rose, West Midlands Police

Rod Rose is the father of 3 sons (aged 7, 14 and 23) and of Black Caribbean (Jamaican) and White English descent. Unwanted by birth parents, he was brought up by grandparents. He was born in Birmingham in 1972 and once described as the ‘naughtiest boy in the school’ at secondary school. His secondary school careers teacher said to him: “You won’t work as you don’t want to work”, yet he has never been out of a job. He trained as a Computer Engineer, then joined the Royal Air Force as an engineer. He then left the RAF and became a Photocopier engineer. Rod joined West Midlands Police in September 1994, was promoted to Sergeant in 2003 and then Inspector in 2016. He became the temporary Chief Inspector in August 2020 for Walsall.

Andre Reid, Founding Director of KIONDO

Andre is a designer, maker from Walsall, UK who holds a deep interest in urban design, health, policy and the potentials of architecture technology. He is founding director of KIONDO; a design research studio which embed communities in design research, innovation, participatory placemaking and urban regeneration. Andre is passionate about people and places and believes wholeheartedly that we all hold the potential to reimagine and help shape the world we live in.

Jennifer Beth Blake, Director of Change Partnership Ltd.

Jennifer is passionate about the positive impact that great leadership can have in the world and focuses her work and energy on building leadership capacity, capability and confidence; working in partnership with individuals, teams, organisations and communities.

Jennifer has held a number of leadership roles, primarily within the public and community sectors over the last 30 years working within the voluntary sector, local authorities, the NHS, and further and higher education across the West Midlands and the south of the UK.

6 years ago Jennifer founded Change Partnership Ltd, providing expertise through consultancy and interim management to support organisations in the areas of Organisational Development, Business Change Management, Learning and Development and Coaching and Mentoring.

Jennifer is committed to sharing her knowledge, and expertise to make a positive impact within the voluntary and community sector, serving as a board member for organisations at a local and national level; across the areas of Jamaican diaspora, BME leadership and women’s empowerment.

Jennifer has co-authored books in 3 books across 2 genres - Brit-African Caribbean/black history and leadership confidence.

Jennifer is married with 2 beautiful grown-up daughters.

Keith Fraser, Chair of Youth Justice Board

On 14th April 2020 The Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor appointed Keith Fraser as Chair of the Youth Justice Board for England and Wales.

In January 2018, Keith Fraser was appointed as a member of the Youth Justice Board. Keith is also the Non-Executive Director/Trustee at The Work Force Development Trust Limited, Advisor for the National Police Chiefs Council Digital Engagement Project for Young People, and Chair of Employability UK. Prior to this, Keith was a Superintendent and Chief Inspector in the West Midlands Police, having joined as a Constable, during which time he produced the 2016-19 Preventing Gang Involvement and Youth Violence strategy. In October 2017 he retired from the police after 32 years in London and the West Midlands.

Keith also produced the business plan for City of Wolverhampton council where he was the Chair of the authority’s statutory Youth Offending Management Board. He led an innovative preventative project, targeting over 7,000 young people, working with Sport England and was the Strategic Police Lead for the Prince's Trust across the West Midlands.
