June 1948 WINDRUSH June 2021 - Pursuit of Happiness CIC Legacy Of Windrush Descendants (LOWD) Showcase of Events to celebrate our Windrush generations!

Selina Flavias - Author of Black Girl Finance

This evening our guest speaker is Selina and she says "The way our parents spoke about money informs how we spend later in life" She explains how you can break the cycle.

We are very excited to have Selina present on our platform and her world of knowledge in regards to benefiting our generational wealth we are sure, will be welcomed by many.

Selina explains "It always amazes me that, even though so many of us handle money from a young age, by the time we get to our teenage years and early adulthood we lack the ability to talk about it. I grew up feeling that talking about money was inappropriate. I remember being around 10 and asking my mum how much she earned at work. She gave me a cross look – no words were exchanged or needed". Without making a sound, Selina's mum made two things plain: (1) that is none of your business, and (2) don’t be so rude.

We can change this by educating our young and prepare them for the big world, our youth and generations to follow us, they are our future!

We will also be discussing the 5 Year Plan. This was the plan for many of the Windrush era, to make their money over 5 years and return back home to the Caribbean, we know this did not happen for many who decided to remain in the UK, the Mother Country.

We look forward to seeing you at our event this evening, don't forget to tell a friend and bring a friend along!

Sharing Dreams and Struggles Within our Black African Caribbean Community.

We are looking forward to meeting our black African Caribbean community and others from anywhere within the UK and abroad. Being able to converse and share things with others who share the same heritage and ideals is indeed a good way of coming together in unity, solidarity and strength.

We are encouraging our community to strive towards the changes that need to happen along with offering support in any way possible. Lets engage in some quality time and enjoy sharing anything we feel to discuss together, during our regular online sessions.

Systemic and institutional racism along with oppression is and has always been prevalent in the UK regarding our black/brown African Caribbean community residents, this must and has to change now.
