Today a Blue Plaque will be unveiled in Sunderland recognising Celestine Edwards, said to be Britain’s first black editor who used his role and his many speeches to advocate strongly for the equality of black lives and for an end to slavery.

I am happy that black people are getting acknowledge as being a part of and help shaping the British history/culture and not just a symbol of hate because we do not look like people who hate us, however we did not need to be here if this was recognised in the first place. So do not stop digging to highlight the role we played in this country so we can silence those that think we are here to take their jobs, scrounge off the nhs and eat their fish and chips...
