Did you know that before Rosa Parks, there was a young African American teenager aged 15 years old at the time, Claudette Colvin who had refused to move from her seat when told to do so on the bus...
Why has some many of us not known about Claudette, yet we knew of Rosa Parks? Rosa Parks even became apart of Black History month.
This is the statement made by Claudette herself:
"Colvin says the NAACP and all the other black organizations felt Parks would be a good icon because "she was an adult. They didn't think teenagers would be reliable."
She also says Parks had the right hair and the right look.
"Her skin texture was the kind that people associate with the middle class," says Colvin. "She fit that profile."
